"The Girl From Ipanema" by Antônio Carlos Jobim - Acoustic Cover
Here's our acoustic cover of "The Girl From Ipanema" by Antônio Carlos Jobim.
"The Girl from Ipanema" was composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim with the lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes and Newton Mendonça. The original Portuguese version was released in 1962 with the English version following two years later in 1964 released by Verve Records. The song gained international fame after being recorded by João Gilberto and Stan Getz who released the track on their 1964 album, Getz/Gilberto.
Jobim and de Moraes had originally written the song for a play in 1962 and recorded it as an instrumental. However, it was later recorded with lyrics by Mendonça and released as a single with the English version recorded by Astrud Gilberto and released on the album Getz/Gilberto.
Jobim was the primary producer working with Getz and Gilberto to create the final recording which featured a blend of Brazilian samba, bossa nova and jazz. Stan Getz's saxophone solo was one of the defining features of the track.
"The Girl from Ipanema" was a huge commercial success reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States as well as number one in France, the Netherlands and Norway. It also reached the top 10 in many other countries becoming a jazz standard and has been covered by numerous artists over the decades.
The song has been inducted into both the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame.
