"I Can't Go For That" by Hall & Oates was written by Daryl Hall and John Oates and released in 1981 by RCA Records. Hall & Oates enlisted Robert "Mutt" Lange to help with production resulting in a unique production that includes elements of funk, soul, and rock.

The song features a catchy chorus and clever wordplay alongside a captivating soundscape including a guitar, synthesizers, a drum machine and a memorable saxophone solo.

"I Can't Go For That" reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also became a top 10 hit in the UK while breaking the top 20 in Canada and Australia. The song won a Grammy Award in 1982 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group and has since been featured in numerous film and television shows.

Hall & Oates later claimed that iconic bassline had been borrowed by Michael Jackson for his megahit "Billie Jean".
